Emergency Exercise & Recovery Verification

We rehearse the IT emergency under controlled conditions – before it catches you unprepared.

Who is it for?

Companies with an existing IT emergency plan or existing backups that have never realistically rehearsed the emergency.

An emergency plan that only sits in a binder is a risk in a real emergency: contacts have changed, passwords are stored somewhere other than documented, recovery takes three times longer than expected – and in the middle of it all, nobody knows who actually decides. Whether your plan holds up only shows when you rehearse it.

  • Has your IT emergency plan ever been rehearsed in practice since it was created?
  • Do your employees know who does what in an emergency – even when a key person is on vacation?
  • How long does the recovery of your most important systems really take – measured, not estimated?

The emergency as a controlled exercise

Together with you, we simulate a realistic scenario – such as the failure of a central server or an entire site. We don't just test the technology: we restore from your backup as a test, measure actual recovery times, and observe whether the procedures, responsibilities, and communication in your emergency plan hold up against reality.

Findings that make the plan better

Every exercise uncovers gaps – that's exactly its purpose. We document all findings comprehensibly: what worked, where things got stuck, which assumptions in the plan no longer hold. We then update the emergency plan together with you so it holds up next time – whether exercise or real emergency.

Recurring instead of one-off

IT environments change constantly; an exercise from three years ago says little about today. We recommend repeating the emergency exercise on a fixed schedule – many insurers and auditors now like to see this documented as well.

Frequently asked questions

We don't have an IT emergency plan yet – can we still run an exercise?

The reverse order makes more sense: first create the emergency plan (see our IT Emergency Plan product), then test its practicality in the exercise. Without a plan, the exercise would mainly document that structures are missing – there are cheaper ways to learn that.

How does the emergency exercise differ from the backup check?

The backup check specifically tests your data backup and its restorability. The emergency exercise rehearses the emergency as a whole – including responsibilities, decision paths, and communication. If you combine both, starting with the backup check makes sense.

Do we risk a real outage with the exercise?

No, the exercise is designed so your production operations remain untouched: restores go into a separate environment, outages are simulated rather than caused, and the timing is agreed with you.

How often should we repeat such an exercise?

As a rule of thumb: after every major change to your IT landscape, otherwise on a fixed schedule – roughly annually is common. We determine the right cadence for you together, based on your environment.
