What goes into the calculation
The calculator adds up two cost blocks across the duration of the outage:
- Staff cost – number of affected employees × hourly cost per person × outage duration.
- Lost revenue – revenue lost per hour × outage duration.
Nothing else is included, deliberately: no recovery costs, no contractual penalties, no knock-on damage to reputation or customer relationships. The actual cost of an outage can therefore be higher than the calculated figure.
How to read the result
The total is a model calculation, not a quote and not a forecast. Its purpose is a comparison of magnitudes: hold the cost of a single hour of downtime against the monthly cost of the measures that would prevent or shorten exactly that hour. Feel free to run several scenarios – half a day of standstill and three days of standstill lead to very different conclusions.
The limits of this estimate
The result is a non-binding initial estimate based on your own assumptions. It replaces neither individual consulting nor an analysis of your actual infrastructure – only that will show which of your systems can fail, and for how long. Very high or very low inputs are also capped automatically to a plausible range.
What happens to your input
